Road conditions have continued to deteriorate over the past few hours. Consequently, Swain County Schools will be closed today, February 5, for students. It will be an Optional Teacher Workday for staff. We apologize for any inconvenience. The safety of our students, families, and staff is of our utmost importance.

Due to wintry precipitation in parts of the county, Swain County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay today, February 5. Please stay safe and monitor for further updates.

Swain County Schools will operate on a regular schedule tomorrow, Thursday, February 5. However due to forecasted freezing temperatures we will be monitoring road conditions in the morning.
Due to deteriorating road conditions, Swain County Schools will now be closed for students today, Wednesday, February 4th. This will be an Optional Teacher Workday.

Swain County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Wednesday February 4. However, we will continue to monitor road conditions overnight and will reevaluate in the morning.

Join Cartwheel and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Consultant, Dana Sedlak, LCSW, CEDS-C, for a free, live webinar on helping kids build healthy relationships with food and their bodies on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 12–1 pm ET.
Parents and caregivers will leave with tools they can use right away at home and as kids head back to school.

Swain County Schools will be closed for students tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3. It will be an Optional Teacher Workday for staff. Staff may communicate with their supervisor regarding the workday and leave.

Swain County Schools will be closed for all students and 10 or 11-month employees on February 2, 2026. This day will be made up at the end of the school year. All 12-month employees will be contacted by their supervisors for work options.

Swain County Schools will be closely monitoring the weekend weather and road conditions and will make an initial decision regarding school operations on Sunday evening. We may re-evaluate early Monday morning if necessary.

It's cooking week at Prek! Ms. Jennifer's class made Fruit Kabobs earlier this week!





Swain County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27th, due to forecasted extreme cold. This delay will allow for better daylight for all drivers and safer travel conditions. We encourage everyone to dress warmly to ensure safety while waiting for buses or traveling to school.

Due to the likelihood of black ice and freezing temperatures tomorrow morning, Swain County Schools will be closed to students, Monday, January 26th. This will be an optional teacher workday for staff. Thank you.

However, because temperatures are forecasted to drop Sunday night, we may need to re-evaluate based on conditions Monday morning.
